Fara - best advice I can give is to get her gall bladder checked!!! I had mine removed in February and my pain is gone!! Turns out my dad was also misdiagnosed with a hiatal hernia also and almost died from a gallbladder infection, because that was the real problem. I still have the hernia... can't deny what showed up on the MRI, but my pain was coming from the gall bladder. Good luck!

I know it's been over a year since the first comment, but I have to say it was a blessing finding this post. My mother is 51 and was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia a couple years ago. It started bothering her, seriously, in the last 6 months. She discovered the hot tea thing also. Which is how I found this post. I googled "Hot Tea Hiatal Hernia". She's experienced the same pains, the excruciating agony, the tears, the vomiting, etc. Her MD said he doesn't understand how hot tea would help and just brushes her off. But she has to think about her hernia 24/7 to make sure she doesn't aggrivate it. Though neither of us know what to do about it, it's comforting to know that SOMEONE understands and that she isn't being 'over-dramatic' or is exaggerating her pain. I hate being ignored by Dr's and so does she. I'm just about on my toes when I see that look in her eyes.. that the pain has started again. I hope there's a more permanent solution than hot tea in the near future.

Haha... yeah, that is NEVER gonna happen! Wowzers. I did my last two in 43 minutes... one was very hilly though and one was H-O-T. So I'm thinking a flat course on a pretty April day should be optimal and taking 3 minutes off shouldn't be too difficult (I hope!)
